February 13 was Purplicious Day at P.S. 54. Students throughout the school wore purple and came into the library to hear Purplicious, Victoria Kann’s book read aloud. Children put on their critical thinking caps and discussed how the main character dealt with bullies and asserting her individuality. Children identified ways they can squash bullying and also how they can express their feelings and help others who are at the mercy of a bully. Students collaborated and came to the agreement that it only takes one leader to show others that bullying is wrong. If one person starts to stand up to a bully, that gives others courage to follow and do the right thing. The highlight of Purplicious Day was the special education classes and the parent assocation surprising Principal Pardo with a purple birthday cake. It was truly a Purplicious Day!!!
