P.S. 54 was so fortunate to have hosted New York Cares, an amazing nonprofit organization, for the first time. On their annual volunteer day, New York Cares brought approximately 50 volunteers into the school. The three main organizations included Itochu, NY Alum UK and  a local NYC high school. Local families participated with the children in beautifying the school. The volunteers painted line games for the school as well as literary murals. Participants organized classroom libraries and cut teacher materials to further teachers’ time. And Itochu employees even learned how to use power tools in order to use pallets to make benches for the school garden. Thank you New York Cares and all the wonderful volunteers that showed New Yorkers can unite and can make an amazing difference in the lives of NYC Public School children!!!
