NYC Library Services always does an amazing job in organizing their bi-annual Exploratorium. This year school library media specialists gathered to meet and attend PD in Citifield in Queens. The atmosphere was collegial, stimulating and engaging. Numerous and widely varied sessions were available for all to select from. James Patterson was the keynote speaker. He emphasized that students can master ELA Exams, Common Core Learning Standards and anything else thrown into their path only reading, reading, reading. And interestingly, James Patterson stressed that educators need to remind parents of their most important job of reading to and with their offspring. Jerry Spinelli spoke and also recounted his days of writing and facing rejection after rejection, but never gave up. I was fortunate to get a signed book.
