In efforts to solve the watering problem for the school garden, P.S. 54 scholars have been thinking about how to conserve and use water wisely. Scholars intelligently  brain stormed using rain barrels to gather water for later use. In addition, the school gardeners want to create water out of thin air. Since NYC is historically humid in the summer and there is a great deal of morning dew, students have decided to make water by trapping it before it evaporates. Stainless steel bowls will be put out covered with saran wrap to capture condensation and water forming under the heat of the sun. That water will be used to water the garden. HSBC Bank and Citizens NYC recently came to the school to award these critical thinkers and problems solvers with a $5,000 check to implement their project this school year. Richie Torres, council member, had his representative present the school garden and the library with certificates of outstanding citizenship. Stay tuned to see  more as scholars document their project!!!
