The P.S. 54 library media center is so pleased and honored to hold the Boro Wide Golden Apple Award Winner AND the NYRP Rose Award Winner. Scholars worked so diligently this year composting, recycling and learning what it is to be a true environmentally friendly citizen. Children acted as cafeteria rangers as they searched debris for half eaten fruit and veggies to compost. They grinded up chunks into smaller pieces to process, they turned compost and added water on a weekly basis and all in freezing cold and humid, sticky weather. Now P.S. 54 scholars have received the greatest gift of all: knowledge to share with family and friends on how to help the environment. Do you compost? It is one of the most magical things to see food trash turn into dirt for the garden.
