Another way to get scholars excited about virtual classrooms and make learning fun is to build a virtual classroom. Your virtual classroom should include your Bitmoji.  This way school and learning will become playful, interactive, and stimulating.

Personalizing distance learning will help engage kids. Always show your face as you set the precedent. You don’t want to appear as an abstract voice that is in a void or someplace far away.  Showing your face helps to reassure kids and establish a foundation to make a connection.

Here are some personalized Bitmoji library media centers created by my colleagues (Ann Levy, Carol Westphal, Jim Riley, Karen Loia, Peter Sieh). These will inspire and motivate you to create your own. Whether you use an image of your classroom as a background or build your own from wallpaper and floor separates, bring your classroom to life and entice your scholars to learn.

Making a virtual classroom with your own Bitmoji is easier than you think.  Most people are probably familiar with the little Bitmoji, which is a personalized emoji that is in essence an expressive cartoon avatar used to personalize instant messages to friends and family or social media posts. The Bitmoji usually resembles the sender and comes with a large library of moods, expressions, sayings, and background settings.  The Bitmoji classrooms fosters greater engagement as teachers are able to be super creative and utilizing technology tools that are socially relevant and important to today’s kids.

To create a virtual classroom, you can use either a PowerPoint or Google slide, apply backgrounds like floors and walls as you insert furniture and put hyperlinks behind things like posters, books, morning announcements, or other messages.  Many educators are replicating their classrooms with virtual announcements, downloadable books, and other hyperlinks. For example, you can update your morning message, any announcement or a “do now” that is a clickable link on the virtual classroom SmartBoard.  A virtual classroom can have a library shelf of books where when the student clicks on it, they go straight to that e-book or a reading passage of it.

Happy creating!!!
